Verify that all invalid access attempts are logged on computers in the CDE |
The visibility into who is attempting to login with invalid credentials is critical to detect the password guessing attacks often utilized by malicious parties. Not all invalid logons are indication of attack and it’s often the invalid logon attempt threshold that matters in analyzing invalid logon activity. Section 10.3 also specifies that user ID, type of event (in this case invalid logon), timestamp, status, origination and entity names have to be included with all invalid logon activity log records.
This Action1 query lists logon auditing configuration settings for all managed endpoints and flags endpoints that don’t have auditing of invalid logons enabled.
